Understanding Your Medicare Options
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people 65 and older (and some younger people with disabilities). While the basics are covered by the government, there are gaps—and that’s where supplemental coverage comes in.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap)
Medigap policies fill the gaps in Original Medicare: deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and excess charges. Plans are standardized by letter (A, B, G, N, etc.), so the coverage is the same regardless of which company issues it. The difference is price and customer service.
Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) are offered by private insurers as an alternative to Original Medicare. They typically bundle medical, prescription drug, and sometimes dental and vision coverage into one plan, often with lower premiums but network restrictions.
Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage
If you stay with Original Medicare (with or without a Medigap plan), you’ll want a standalone Part D plan to cover prescriptions. We’ll help you find one that covers your specific medications at the lowest cost.
When to Enroll
Your initial enrollment window opens three months before your 65th birthday and closes three months after. Missing this window can result in late enrollment penalties and limited plan choices. We’ll make sure you’re enrolled on time.
